Autodesk display echoes EPF exhibition theme

Autodesk's stand at the recent Engineering Planet Future (EPF) exhibition echoed the theme of the event by showcasing technology that helps civil engineers fast track projects with the latest digital design technology that copes with punishing project schedules and capacity shortages.

The exhibition organised by the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE), rallied development stakeholders to find solutions to crippling challenges, such as the critical shortage of civil engineers in the public sector.

According to Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs director-general, Elroy Africa, poor service delivery in South Africa is partly attributable to deteriorating infrastructure, which is the result of a shortage of engineers in local authorities. Prior to 1994, there was an average of 20 civil engineers per 100 000 people in South Africa - a figure which declined to 2.8 per 100 000 by 2005.

In conjunction with its partner, Prokon, Autodesk's stand featured productivity boosting AutoCAD Civil 3D and AutoCAD Revit Structure Suite software, together with hardware and accessories from WVT's strategic partners.

Collateral focused on the transportation sector, highlighting Autodesk technology's increased efficiency and productivity, which helps to keep projects on budget and on schedule, while reducing material waste and increasing environmental responsibility. The Localised Content Package for optimising performance of AutoCAD Civil 3D Subscribers was also highlighted.

"Audio visual material on the stand, located at the entrance to the exhibition hall, was very effective in attracting visitors to the stand," says Richard Smedley-Williams of Prokon. "There was significant interest in AutoCAD Civil 3D among delegates from both inside and outside South Africa's borders."
